Ode to the Moon
30. Character you most relate to.

Elinor Dashwood

I am reserved, practical, and tend to keep everything bottled up. And I fancy myself sometimes witty/sarcastic as her, lol. There was also a time I liked a guy (years ago), had a girl befriend me and tell me her dreams about the guy, and the eventual drama of their relationship (while I stayed quiet about it).

I completely relate to her, and admire her character for having the tenacity of holding her family together in difficult times and putting up with Marianne. Not only holding her family together, but also showing patience and compassion while enduring inner turmoil.

I cannot believe I finished the challenge!First one to be completed. I will miss this, I thoroughly  enjoyed it!

29. Favorite character back story or secret.

Colonel Christopher Brandon

Practically straight from a romance novel Mexican soap opera! They grew up together, they were in love, his father did not approve and sent him away. She dies disgraced leaving an illegitimate daughter. Her daughter becomes his ward. She goes missing, and when she is found he goes off leaving everyone (including the reader) wondering. Very interesting back story

28. Favorite moment from the films.

Lucy Steele: It is a very great secret. I’ve told nobody in the world for fear of discovery.

Fanny Dashwood: I am the soul of discretion

Lucy: If I dared tell …
Fanny: I can assure you, I am as silent as the grave.

Viper in my bosom!  Stop this!

Mr. Bennet: Your mother insists on you marrying Mr. Collins...
Mrs. Bennet: Yes! Or I’ll never see her again!
Mr. Bennet: Well, Lizzie, from this day henceforth it seems you must be a stranger to one of your parents…
Mrs. Bennet: Who will maintain you when your father’s gone?
Mr. Bennet: Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins… and I will never see you again if you do.
Mrs. Bennet: Mr. Bennet!

27. Favorite quote from the films

Edward Ferrars: “Do you need some help?…. with the carpet beating?

————————————

Elizabeth And that put paid to it. I wonder who first discovered the power of poetry in driving away love?
Mr. Darcy: I thought that poetry was the food of love.
Elizabeth: Of a fine stout love, it may. But if it is only a vague inclination I’m convinced one poor sonnet will kill it stone dead
Mr. Darcy:

—————————————

Mr. Bennet: “If any young men come for Mary or Kitty, for heaven’s sake, send them in. I’m quite at my leisure”

26. Favorite casting cameo from the films

Hugh Laurie in Sense and Sensibility. He is hilarious and I love him!!

Michael Gambon as Mr. Woodhouse. He was so adorable!!

And Donald Sutherland as Mr. Bennet. I would like him as my dad :D

25. Favorite family connection (i.e. sister-sister, mother-daughter, brother-sister, etc.)

The Dashwoods

Mr. Dashwood, Emma, and Ms Taylor/Mrs. Weston

Darcy and Georgiana

They are all cute and even if they have differences, they talk it over and love is never lost between them. (Oh and I included Mrs. Weston, because she practically was family. It’s never an issue that she used to be a governess)

24. Favorite supporting character.

[Okay, now to catch up with this one. This was Fridays question]

Colonel Brandon

I really really like him! I prefer him over Edward Ferrars. I guess it’s because he’s present more in the books, has a tragic past (losing his love), and loves Marianne throughout all the silliness she does in the book AND get’s his happily ever after. He’s a perfect gentleman, and for awhile reading the book I always wonder what would have happened if he and Elanor would have fallen in love. Fanfiction anyone?

23. Favorite Austen male casting decision.

Dan Stevens as Edward Ferrars

Edward always seemed kind of blah. I am sorry Hugh Grant, but I don’t pay much attention to you (to Alan Rickman, lol). So when I first saw the 2008 adaption of Sense and Sensibility, I was pleasantly surprised! I LOVED them! He was adorable! I just loved the first scene, asking if she needed any help with the carpet beating, Lol. He acted superb, always wanting to say something to Elinor, seeming conflicted when he visits them, and his face when he is thanking Elinor for what Col. Brandon did for him.

22. Favorite Austen female casting decision.

I’m very grateful that there have been so many amazing casting decisions in Jane Austen adaptations (let’s ignore the not amazing). I choose Romola Garai

She embodied Emma in everything, she is gorgeous,

spoiled, a snob (in the beginning), not a great scholar,

A young woman with a great love of life and humor

Loves her father dearly

Sarcastic/Witty

Proud Matchmaker

Clueless/Naive

Defends her (whether right or wrong) beliefs against Knightley

And little naunces of expression and remorse.

Romola did a superb job!

I would like to give credit to a wonderful tumblr My Dearest Emma, http://haveinochanceofsucceeding.tumblr.com/ . Absolutely gorgeous screen captures!
